MakerBot Desktop

  • Makerbot stores custom settings with accompanying gcode in a single folder under the current user’s home directory.
  • The folder name will appear in the software as the name of the custom profile.
  • The settings file contains json-formatted text and must be named miracle.json.
  • You can add custom pre/post print gcode and the files must be named start.gcode and end.gcode, respectively.  If the settings file doesn’t contain this code,

Installing Custom Settings

  1. Download settings file to a known folder.
  2. Create a folder and give it the same name as the downloaded .json file to make it easy to find.
    1. Windows: Create a folder in C:\Users\<current user>\My Things\Profiles
    2. Mac OSX: Create a folder in /Users/<current user>/Things/Profiles
  3. Open MakerBot Desktop. Click Settings.
  4. Select Advanced Options.
  5. Select your profile from the dropdown menu. It should have the same name as the folder.
  6. Use the profile as-is or edit it by clicking the “edit profile” button.

Saving Custom Profiles

  1. Save your custom setting in MakerBot Desktop.
  2. Navigate to the MakerBot Desktop profiles folder.
    1. Windows: Create a folder in C:\Users\<current user>\My Things\Profiles
    2. Mac OSX: Create a folder in /Users/<current user>/Things/Profiles
  3. Open the folder containing the Custom settings you want to upload.
  4. Zip up the files in the folder. Please make sure the file name ends in .zip, .gz or .tgz extension.
